DSCC’s Latest Display Capacity Forecast Shows LCD Capacity to Remain Tight

Last week DSCC issued the display capacity chapter of its Quarterly Display Capex and Equipment Market Share Report. Highlights include: • We have upgraded our 2025 display capacity forecast by 3% which is mostly a result of pulling in a number of OLED fabs, the addition of LGD E6-3 and small expansions at a few LCD fabs. We now show display capacity growing at just a 2.7% CAGR.

Q3 Earnings: Panel Maker Comparison

Display industry revenues in Q3 2020 increased to their highest level since Q4 2017 at $30.5 billion, up 21% Q/Q and up 11% Y/Y. The first chart in this section shows revenue share. Samsung has continued to hold the top position in revenue share, but is closely followed by BOE and LGD as the only other companies with double-digit shares. Then there is a cluster of four companies between 5% and 8% share: AUO, Innolux, CSOT and Sharp, with JDI falling out of that tier and also trailing Tianma.

MicroLED TV Revenues to Reach $228M by 2026

Revenues for microLED TVs will increase to $228 million by 2026, according to the newly released MicroLED Display Technology and Market Outlook Report from DSCC. Although consumers are very enthusiastic about microLED technology, the report finds that microLED will only have a small share of the TV market due to a high retail price.

Display Fab Utilization Continuing Strong in 2H 2020

After a slowdown in Q2 2020 that was less severe than expected, display industry fab utilization recovered in Q3 and is continuing at high levels in Q4, according to the latest release of DSCC’s Quarterly All Display Fab Utilization Report, issued this week. In Q3 2020, total TFT input for all display makers was up 9% Q/Q and Y/Y at 76.4 million square meters, and in the current Q4 2020 we expect total TFT input to be down less than 1% Q/Q up 10% Y/Y at 76.1 million square meters.
