OLED Revenues to Decline 9% Y/Y in 2023 – Recovery in IT Categories and Smartphones Expected to Continue in 2024

As revealed in DSCC’s latest release of the OLED Shipment Report, OLED panel revenues are expected to fall by 9% Y/Y in 2023 to $37.6B versus our prior estimate of a 13% Y/Y decline. The improvement to panel revenues is the 2% Y/Y increase for units as a result of the 2H’23 inventory and demand improvement for several applications. In Q3’23, OLED smartphones increased 9% Q/Q and 22% Y/Y and OLED tablets increased 61% Q/Q and 103% Y/Y. Several other applications had Q/Q and Y/Y increases. Hisense and TCL Gaining Share in Sluggish Advanced TV Market with MiniLED TVs Surging and OLED TVs Sinking

The Advanced TV market has been sluggish throughout 2023, but Chinese brands are gaining share by advancing in their domestic market and with exports, according to the latest update of DSCC’s Quarterly Advanced TV Shipment and Forecast Report, now available to subscribers. The top three brands outside of China – Samsung, LG and Sony – all fared poorly while TCL and Hisense gained share in the premium segment.Read More

LCD Panels to Capture 67% Share of AR/VR Display Shipments in 2024

Display shipments for AR/VR devices are only expected to reach 19M units in 2024, according to the latest update of DSCC's Biannual Augmented and Virtual Reality Display Technologies and Market Report. LCD will have the biggest share of shipments, with nearly 13M panels. DSCC, a Counterpoint Research Company, also expects that SiOLED (a.k.a. Flat Panel Display Oversupply Will Continue Into 2024

The challenging oversupply environment for the display industry in 2023 will continue into 2024, according to DSCC’s Quarterly FPD Supply/Demand Report, released last week. The market for MicroLED displays is expected to surpass $1.4B by 2028, according to DSCC’s latest MicroLED Display Technology and Market Outlook Report. OLED Panel Shipments Rebound in Q3’23 on Y/Y Growth from Smartphones, Monitors and Tablets

As revealed in DSCC’s latest release of the OLED Shipment Report – Flash Edition, OLED panel shipments increased 18% Q/Q and 14% Y/Y in Q3’23 to 205M units (Q2’23 saw a 1% Y/Y increase). The Y/Y growth for several applications is a welcome sign indicating that inventory has started to rebalance for some categories after Y/Y declines in 2022 and in the first half of 2023. In Q3’23, by select OLED applications, OLED smartphones panel shipments increased 12% Q/Q and 25% Y/Y in units and OLED TV panel shipments decreased 14% Q/Q and 40% Y/Y in units.
