Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Led Flagship Smartphone Chipsets in July – A17 Bionic Poised to Lead in August as Apple Ramps Up iPhone 15 Pro Models

As we highlighted in the Monthly Flagship Smartphone Tracker, the 5nm Apple A15 Bionic, the 4nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, and the 4nm Apple A16 Bionic chipset were the top three flagship (flexible and foldable OLED) smartphone chipsets in June. The continued share gains for the A15 Bionic chipset were the result of significant panel shipments for the iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 13 Pro Max and iPhone 14. In June, the iPhone 14 and iPhone 13 were the top two models on a panel shipment basis. For 2023, prior to June, the A15 Bionic led all chipsets, followed by the A16 Bionic chipset and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset was introduced on November 15, 2022, and is used in 15 flagship smartphone models.Read More

Fab Utilization Increases Further in Q3’23, Industry Risks Oversupply

The increase in display fab utilization that started in Q1’23 accelerated in the second quarter and continues in the third quarter, according to the latest release of DSCC’s Quarterly All Display Fab Utilization Report issued last week. Inventory in the display supply chain has been trimmed to normal levels, and restocking is leading to increased demand. However, big increases in utilization by LCD makers hold the risk of overshooting demand and stifling the rally in panel prices.Read More

Despite Downturn in the Display Industry, DSCC Report Reveals MiniLED Shipments to Rebound in Q2’23

Although MiniLED shipments declined in Q1’23 due to the impact of sluggish global demand, it is believed that shipments returned to normal levels in the second quarter as inventory fell and demand recovered. DSCC’s latest release of its Quarterly MiniLED Backlight Technologies, Cost and Shipment Report revealed that MiniLED is still an indispensable driving force for the growth of the display industry. MiniLED backlight shipments were 3.9M units in Q1’23 and are expected to reach 5M units in Q2’23.Read More

DSCC Expects Apple and Samsung to Account for 74% of OLED Smartphone Panel Revenues on 4% Y/Y Unit Growth in 2023

In the recently released Advanced Smartphone Display Shipment and Technology Report, DSCC revealed additional granularity and insights on Q1’23 OLED smartphone results and the latest forecast through 2027. In 2023, OLED smartphone panel shipments are expected to increase 4% Y/Y to 608M panels and panel revenues are expected to decline 5% Y/Y to $30.8B on 16% Y/Y panel ASP declines for flexible OLED panels, 21% Y/Y panel ASP decline for rigid OLED panels and 11% Y/Y panel ASPs declines for foldable OLED panels.Read More
