Why Automotive Displays Are Poised to Break Out and How They Will Evolve

Automotive displays are forecasted to be one of if not the fastest growing display market. Why? As Counterpoint Research showed, the average display area per vehicle is growing at a double-digit rate with the average display size rising by over 5% in the last year. We are also seeing LTPS LCDs, MiniLED LCDs and OLEDs take share as well as brands look to differentiate their offerings, provide a better experience to customers and explore new business models such as streaming. This session will explore the latest outlook for automotive displays, discuss the latest metrics for display area, size and revenues by brand, model, powertrain, region, etc. It will also explore other key issues display suppliers are facing in the automotive market as well as the opportunity for MicroLEDs in the automotive market.

AR/VR is one of the most challenging applications for display manufacturers, requiring very small pixels and high brightness. Despite the launch of the Apple Vision Pro last year, the market for VR has been declining. All eyes are now on the next generation of AR smart glasses. MicroLED is seen as a key enabling technology for AR, as demonstrated by Meta in the Orion glasses. In this session, we will discuss the AR/VR market and the latest progress in MicroLED commercialization.

How the IT Display Market is Likely to Evolve

This session will cover the latest IT market and technology outlook for notebook PCs, tablets and monitors. In 2024, IT displays (which include LCDs, OLEDs and MiniLEDs) grew Y/Y after falling 8% in 2023 as a result of demand for AI PCs, new display sizes, new technologies and more brand participation. All of the major brands reported a recovery in 2024 as a result of improved sell-in, sell-through, increased back-to-school and holiday seasonality and increased commercial demand in light of the sunset of Windows 10 and demand for AI PCs. In 2025 - 2029, IT displays are expected to continue to experience growth as a result of the consumer and commercial markets having more choices than ever before and as a result of AI PCs capturing more market share, new fabs coming online, improved display performance, new form factors, new use cases and cost reductions. This session will cover the evolution of the IT market and much more.
