ABSTRACT

Advancements in OLED Materials for IT Displays

The application of OLED displays in IT devices is a rather recent trend, with impressive products entering the market and remarkable market growth.

However, this evolution brings forth significant challenges regarding OLED display lifetime and performance. Key requirements include enhanced efficiency, a wide color gamut, minimized pixel
crosstalk, and the ability to support high and also variable refresh rates.

At the heart of these advancements are OLED materials, and thus also our deep understanding of the links between molecular structure, physical properties and front of screen performance. The implementation of tandem architectures further complicates these relationships.

In this presentation, we will provide a comprehensive overview of our innovative approaches to OLED material development, supported by specific case studies and success stories that illustrate our contributions to the field. Join us as we explore the future of OLED materials and its transformative impact on IT applications.

BIOGRAPHY

Georg Bernatz has received a PhD in Physics from the Philipps-Universität in Marburg, Germany in 2000. In 2004, Georg joined the Electronics Business of Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany where, over the years, he worked in various functions and on various topics in the field of Liquid Crystals for displays. From 2014, he headed the Physics research department in charge of the development of new Liquid Crystals for all commercialized LCD technologies. In 2018, Georg changed to OLED, leading OLED Physics Product Research, and in 2020 he became responsible for all Physics & Application Labs in Darmstadt for Display materials.

Since October 2023, Georg is heading the Global Technical Marketing for OLED materials.
