With the smartphone market having now hit the critical point of contraction for 2 years straight, device manufacturers, supply chain, and channels are all looking toward what’s next. Discussions and marketing around new smartphone technology such as 5G, artificial intelligence, and foldable devices are running rampant and products are soon to hit the market with all of these features and more. But the real question remains – what will drive the market back to growth? Or, is market contraction the new reality going forward? In this session Mr. Reith will share IDC’s opinions and latest research around some of the latest technology that will come to smartphones in 2019 and beyond. In addition Reith will also touch on what is happening within the mass market, with views on where growth can be expected, as well as discussing areas where challenging market conditions will remain.
