ABSTRACT

Using Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) actuators in varifocal XR displays

Vergence-accommodation conflict (VAC) remains a key technical challenge which causes users to have a poor experience of XR displays. This talk will explore how miniature actuators built with Shape Memory Alloy can be used in a varifocal display system to help overcome VAC. We will reveal why the unique characteristics of the material mean this approach has minimal impact on the power, weight, or size of the system.
