Abstract:

Head-up displays (HUDs) are gaining mainstream adoption in cars just as discussions and demonstrations of autonomous vehicles are gaining momentum. At the same time LEDs are fully penetrating the exterior lighting market. These three major trends in the automotive market require a new generation of optics to enable 1) low-volume, wide field-of-view HUD, 2) eye-safe, long range LIDAR, and 3) aesthetically pleasing, efficient headlight and taillight designs. We will discuss thin-film optical solutions for all three of these automotive applications.
