SID/DSCC Business Conference Will Highlight Developments in Growing Automotive Display Sector

La Jolla, CA -

The 2023 SID/DSCC Business Conference will cover the latest developments in the automotive display sector, one of the fastest growing applications for displays. The SID/DSCC Business Conference, sponsored by Applied Materials, SmartKem, GE, OTI Lumionics and TOP ENGINEERING, is part of Display Week 2023, the world's leading event focused on emerging electronic display and visual information technologies. Registration is already open and available at this link.

DSCC has organized the conference for seven consecutive years, in collaboration with the Society for Information Display (SID). With over 300 attendees annually, the SID/DSCC Business Conference is the largest event dedicated to the business aspects of the display industry, covering the main market segments, including Smartphones, AR/VR and TVs.

The conference will include five sessions of live presentations at the Los Angeles Convention Center on Wednesday, May 24th, plus five additional virtual sessions which will be available to be viewed by all attendees. The following speakers have been confirmed for the virtual Automotive Display Technology and Market Outlook session of the Business Conference:

  • Kyle Davis, Senior Analyst, S&P Mobility
  • Mathias Stegemann, Global Director Product Management, VIA optronics GmbH

Kyle Davis, Senior Analyst, S&P Mobility will present on the market for automotive displays. His presentation will include a base forecast from 2021-2028 for Center Stack Display, Instrument Cluster, and Head-up Display. Additionally, he will look into specific technology trends related to these components, including digitalization, size, orientation, augmented reality (AR), and more. Emerging technologies such as 3D displays, pillar-to-pillar displays and passenger entertainment will be discussed as a potential long term solution in the market.

Mathias Stegemann, Global Director Product Management, VIA optronics GmbH will discuss technology developments to enable curved displays. Since Porsche launched the Taycan in 2019 curved Displays are becoming more and more prominent. Several shapes like V-Shape, C-Shape and S-Shape as well as more complex ways of integration like Pillar2Pillar are requested by the Market.

The supply chain had and still must overcome several challenges in order to realize the new way of integrating displays into Cockpits. To name a few these are Head Impact Test (HIT), Surface Reflection and Gap Flush Design. These challenges are tackled through different approaches. One key approach is the selection of the Cover Lens material and related processes.

The presentation will discuss advantages and disadvantages of various cover materials including plastics like PC or PMMA and glass materials with both hot forming and cold forming. Cold forming offers significant advantages when it comes to material costs and processing, including high yield. Furthermore, options for optical bonding material such as OCA and OCR will be discussed.

The SID/DSCC Business Conference will be held in-person on Wednesday, May 24th during Display Week 2023 at the Los Angeles Conventions Center. The in-person and virtual presentations feature 44 presenters from 37 different companies. The complete list of all speakers and their abstracts can be found at 2023 SID/DSCC Business Conference.
