AR/VR Displays Will Take Center Stage at the SID/DSCC Business Conference

Austin, TX -

DSCC has announced the speaker lineup for the Augmented and Virtual Reality (AR/VR) session at the SID/DSCC Business Conference. The session will feature two leading analysts and four CEOs of innovative companies in the AR/VR industry. Innovations in OLED and MicroLED will be covered, as well as opportunities for the display industry.

The SID/DSCC Business Conference, jointly organized by the Society for Information Display (SID) and DSCC, is the display industry's largest and longest running business conference with participation from industry executives and leading financial and market analysts from across the globe. The conference is part of Display Week 2021, the world's leading event focused on emerging electronic display and visual information technologies from concept to market.

The all-virtual event will begin on May 17th and will include pre-recorded talks and presenter interviews. Attendees from across the globe will be able to stream the presentations at any time during the week and submit questions which will be asked and answered the following week.

The SID/DSCC Business Conference has covered the main market segments for displays, including Smartphones, TVs, notebook and monitor panels for decades. This year, the AR/VR segment will have its own session for the first time, reflecting the increasing levels of interest and investment in this category. Dr. Guillaume Chansin, Director of Display Research at DSCC, will present key findings from the new Augmented and Virtual Reality Display Technologies and Market Report. “With all the rumors surrounding Apple’s upcoming headset, AR/VR is a hot topic right now”, Chansin stated. “The display is a critical component of any VR headset or AR smart glasses and the technology roadmap will have a huge impact on whether AR/VR becomes the next big thing.”

Leo Gebbie is Senior Analyst at CCS Insight, where he focuses on virtual reality and augmented reality and wearables. His presentation will show the latest trends and outlook in the market.

Paul Travers is the CEO of Vuzix, a leading vendor of smart glasses for Enterprise applications. In 2020, Vuzix’s annual revenues increased by 74%. Vuzix will launch its next generation smart glasses with MicroLED displays this year.

Andrew Sculley, CEO, eMagin, will discuss how to increase the brightness of full color OLED microdisplays with direct patterning technology. The company’s roadmap includes 10,000 nits of brightness in 2021 and 28,000 nits by mid-2023.

Qiming Li, CEO, Jade Bird Display will present the latest progress in MicroLED technology for AR/VR. In 2020, Jade Bird Display started the mass production of a MicroLED display with a 0.13-inch (3.3 mm) diagonal and a resolution of 640×480.

Dr. Nikhil Balram previously led the Display Group at Google, which was responsible for developing display systems for all Google consumer hardware, including AR and VR. He is now the CEO of EyeWay Vision Inc., a startup company developing immersive AR glasses.
